almost midway thru pt3 in my reread and maybe the thing that's the most amusing to me is actually that karl just steadily puts on weight as the story progresses bc the longer i was writing the more i decided he'd be more attractive if he was chunky. like looking back on it now i had ethan give him some sweats bc there's not that much of a size diff in canon, ethan's got some old sweats with worn out elastic, it'll work.
but rereading that part now, as karl has just gotten progressively wider as i've been writing i'm just like oh no lmao. i'm sure everyone pictures him however they'd like regardless, but it's just very funny to me. that elastic's gotta be VERY worn out.
not really spoilers unless you just haven't read pt4, but like eight billion years ago when 'all i need is some sunshine' was just going to be a max 10k word series of vignettes i'd planned a scene where ethan is trying to cajole karl into going jogging with him, which was mostly just a joke for myself bc originally they were gonna be frequenting the Dairy Queen on the island a lot more often and so there were going to be a lot of Blizzards to work off. ethan was going to eventually manage to convince him by agreeing to go jog by the alligator pond bc he knew karl loved the gators.
there's a few other scenes i had to ax: was gonna be one with ethan fishing too. ended up leaning a bit more into him doing car restoration instead. wanted to do more with the salt marsh too, but fic was long enough tbh. karl was going to have more interactions with people on the island as well, including Michelle and another OC who worked at the Dairy Queen and who was originally going to be the one to introduce him to the gators; i had Mrs. Chalmers fill in for her instead, and the idea of her kind of got absorbed into Mrs. Chalmers' daughter, who doesn't actually make an appearance.
anyway maybe later (much later lol) i'll feel like going back and doing little bonus ficlets for stuff i had to ax. i do also still want to go back and write karl pov for the first three fics, but especially pt2 which he spends having/staving off a series of offscreen breakdowns lmfao. every time i reread pt1 i'm just like "REALLY wanna continue 'creep on creepin on' but i CAN'T gotta write NEW STUFF." and then i reread pt2 and it's just like, incredibly funny to me that karl spends the entire fic Really Goin' Through It but none of that's actually onscreen.

Karl: /gets another 'ethan died' ping while on breakdown #3/ oh foR FUCK'S SAKE, WINTERS
